John. 21:15
Do you know what love really means? If you don’t, then you should read 1.Corinthians 13: 1- 8. “Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, AND ENDURES all things. Love never ends.” What I’ve just written here is God’s love for you. You! You are that important that he is patient for you. He longs for you to be with him.
Have you ever been in love with someone and they do not feel the same way in return? Just like this is the longing of God’s love for those who not believe in him.
If you read the meeting of Peter and Jesus just a few days after Peter had denied that he knew Jesus in John. 21:15-20. See how Jesus meets Peter, not with the question whether he would promise to keep all the commandments and regulations, not by exhortation or word that he must improve. No, Jesus asks if Peter loves him.
IMAGINE yourself getting married to the world’s best guy. Imagine if he says; Yes, I will be yours, I’ll put down the seat when I have pied, I will make sure that we will have enough money to have food on the table and I promise to change the tires on the car. But, my heart will never be yours.. Would you have married him? You would probably have an ok life. But Without love I think life would be empty and the man I was married to, wouldn’t have been really mine.
Sometimes I wonder if God feels like this. I do a lot of great deeds. I give money to the poor, I preach his word and I try my best to be a person to look up to. BUT, this is NOT what God asks for, he asks:
Do you love me more than anything else?
A Christian life is based on that love. God wants us to love him more than anything else. He wants us to put down everything, come to him and feel his love for us. He FORGIVES and I can come to him again in his love and our life’s will be a result of his love.
God also WISHES for us to show love for others.
“Do not seek revenge
or bear a grudge
against one of your people,
but love your neighbour
as yourself.
I am the lord.”
Leviticus 19:18
