2015 - Book #2 - The One Plus One

“The law of probability combined with the law of large numbers states that to beat the odds, sometimes you have to repeat an event an increasing number of times in order to get you to the outcome you desire. The more you do, the closer you get. Or… basically, sometimes you just have to keep going.”
By Jojo Moyes

Last year I read Me Before You, and I loved it. My made of honor might have thought the same thing, because then I got this book from her for Christmas. I am expecting that I will be in need of a handkerchief and that I will be in need of finishing it quite quickly. Lets dive back to the world of where anything can happen..

Jess is a single mother for two children, Tanzie and Nicky. She's struggling to pay the next bills and she have two jobs to make her ends meet. Still it is not enough when the school calls up to tell her that her daughter has great abilities in mathematics and they would wish for her to accept a scholarship to a private school so she could get the best education for her skills. The scholarship would only cover 90% of the costs, and Jess can't find anywhere to get the money from. One day they call up and say she can join an Olympic competition in mathematics where the price would pay for the school fees.

Mr. Nicholls is a successful IT guy, a nerd if you like, with a great business idea and bad taste in women. His life seems perfect with no worries in the world - until the day he forgot to think twice and gave his soon to be ex-girlfriend a tips about how to invest her money. When the idea is launched and it is a great success on Wall Street, the police comes to his office to see him about insider trading. He is told to stay low for a couple of weeks.

Mr. Nicholls stumbles through the doors of a pub where Jess works part time, and she recognice him from one of the houses she's cleaning. When he gets drunk, she made sure he got home - just arriving at his house, she gets a call and need to go to the hospital - Arriving at the hospital she finds a load of cash in the deck of the car. It's enough to take her family to Scotland and for Tanzie to compete for the first prize. Will she take the money? Will Mr. Nicholls notice that they're gone if she did?

She takes the old car from the garage, only to break down, and guess who shows up?

Jojo Moyes have done it again! A feel good book which I liked the story of. It's the kind of story you feel could be an everyday story, and at the same time you feel like not giving up on the problems that you have in your own life, to be optimistic, everything will be alright.
