Castle challenge - #2 - Wray Castle

Wray Castle
When Jared and I went to the Lake District, we went exploring a little bit, and then we came by this castle, which is not really a castle, but it is a castle (as you can see from the picture that it looks like one).

It is actually a private house built in in the Gothic Revival Style in 1840. It was built for Dr James Dawson, a retired Liverpool surgeon, and is now owned by the National Trust. The house was built using his wife’s inheritance from a gin fortune. Apparently she took one look at the house when it was finished, and refused to live in it.

Have you ever heard about the tale of Peter Rabbit? Beatrix Potter that wrote the book, was on holiday here one summer when she was 16, in 1882. This started her long associations with the Lake District.

In 1929 the castle was given to the National Trust by Sir Noton and Lady Barclay.
